Among these is Chinese smartphone brand Oppo, which has unveiled its 5G device at the tech show. Oppo held an event in Barcelona over the weekend where it briefly showcased its 5G smartphone, however, it did not give out too many details about it. We don’t know anything about the availability or the specifications of the smartphone, but Oppo has confirmed that the device would be powered by Qualcomm’s latest processor. Along with this, the Chinese smartphone maker also announced its Oppo 5G Landing Project and said that it has partnered with telecom majors like Optus, Singtel, Swisscom, and Telstra so that it can launch and roll out its 5G products and services.
The company’s vice president Anyi Jiang showed Oppo’s first 5G smartphone to the attendees and said that a number of obstacles had to be overcome in order to make the smartphone as it comes with the design of the antenna and RF modules. Qualcomm’s president Cristiano Amon also took to stage where he announced that Oppo’s 5G smartphone would house Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset and the Snapdragon X50 modem that provides 5G connectivity. He said in a statement, “Given their leadership in the 4G era, Oppo is well positioned to be a leader in the transition to 5G. We see tremendous opportunities to drive further innovation in the 5G era, and Qualcomm Technologies looks forward to working closely with Oppo to realise the true potential of 5G and support the launch of their first 5G smartphone powered by our flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform with the X50 5G modem, integrated RF transceiver and RF Front-End solutions.” We should mention that Samsung also launched the 5G variant of its Galaxy S10 smartphone at an event in San Francisco on February 20 and Xiaomi unveiled the 5G variant of its Mi Mix 3 smartphone at MWC 2019 in Barcelona, Spain.
