The report comes from a tipster named Ice Universe who posted on the Chinese networking platform Weibo about this new development. It should be noted that the 64MP resolution camera was introduced by Samsung earlier in May and it is the successor to the company’s 48MP ISOCELL GM1 sensor. There is also a possibility that the Redmi smartphone that will come with a 64MP rear sensor could be unveiled first in China itself. But right now, there is no news about the name, details or the specifications of this upcoming device. All we know about is its main camera sensor.

Talking about the new 64MP camera sensor, it has Samsung’s ISOCELL Plus and Tetracell technologies. Both of these are capable of producing brighter low-light images as they combine four pixels of 16MP resolution into one whole image. The new sensor also supports real-time HDR of up to 100-decibel along with a dual conversion gain which reportedly produces rich hues and colour accuracy with little noise. Other than that, some other features of the new Samsung’s 64MP sensor are phase detection auto-focus technology along with Full-HD recording at 480 frames-per-second (FPS) for smooth slow-motion videos. This year, we saw that Xiaomi incorporated the 48MP sensor in Redmi Note 7 Pro, which is a device in the budget segment of the Indian smartphone market. So once, the 64MP sensor is released, we would like to see in which smartphone it deploys the camera in and how much will the handset be priced.
